Letters of thanks
As part of our learning about the Rena and the Wildlife Response Team we decided to write letters. We wrote to thank the workers for the amazing job they are doing cleaning and looking after the wildlife.
We were so suprised to get an email inviting us to be part of the penguin release on Thursday 8th December. It was an amazing day and Lucy, Joseph and Manawa were chosen to open the penguin box. We loved watching the peguins going back to their homes. They were very cute!

Rena Disaster
We have looked at newspaper articles, watched video clips and talked about the Rena disaster.
Here are some of our thoughts
The Rena tipped over sideways and got stuck on the reef. It spewed some oil over by the Mount. I feel sad because some of the penguins died. Jess
The Rena ship got stuck by the Mount. The oil leaked out of the boat. Lots of people helped clean the oil up. Journey
The Rena fell sideways onto the reef. The Rena spilt oil on the beach and some penguins got covered in oil. Some big boxes fell off the Rena. I feel sad because it was very sad. Neva
The Wildlife Rescue Centre helps the animals that are covered in oil. First they use canola oil to take the other oil off. Then they go under a nice warm lamp to dry. After that they go into a swimming pool to have a swim. Lucy

Chocolate Peppermint Balls
Room 11 made peppermint balls for Fathers Day. Earlier in the year Jada's Mum helped us to make some for Mothers Day. They were so delicious that we didn't want Dad to miss out.
Some of the children in Room 11 would like to make them at home.
Here is the recipe
1 packet of chocolate thins
1/2 tin of condensed milk
1 tsp of peppermint essence
1 T cocoa
coconut
Put biscuits into blender and crush. Add the condensed milk, essence and cocoa. Roll into balls and coat in coconut. Enjoy!!!
Thanks Jada's Mum for the yummy recipe.

Working as a team
We read the story "The Little Blue Duck" which is a kiwiana version of "The Little Red Hen". We used our red thinking hat and talked about how the little blue duck felt when nobody would help her make the pavlova.
We decided it was much better to work as a team SO we made a pavlova together with everyone helping! It was delicious!!!

How to be a Bellevue Team Player
This term we are learning about how to be a Bellevue Team Player. We brainstormed what does the word 'team' mean and came up with lots of ideas. Kayden and Joseph thought that bees and ants work in a team. Kasen said that firemen and police work as a team. Nathan knew that the All Blacks are a team. How can we work as a team in Room 11? Share some ideas with someone at home.

Pyjama Day!
We decided to celebrate the end of term with a pyjama day. In the morning we decorated cupcakes to have for morning tea. The favourite part of our day was changing into our pyjamas and having a shared lunch! In the afternoon we made hot chocolates with marshmallows. Happy holidays everyone.

Joseph brought a coconut to school!
We were all really excited when Joseph told us that he had some coconut for news. Most of the children in the class had never tried coconut before. Some of us loved the coconut and others were not too sure! Where does it come from? How does it grow? See what you can find out and share it with our class.
